Brady’s End Family Fire program – in partnership with the Ad Council – announced the relaunch of its website EndFamilyFire.org, with updated resources and a new interactive self-assessment that provides gun owners with guidance to create personalized, practical firearm storage plans.
End Family Fire is the only national program that uses the power of communications and public service advertisements (PSAs) to bring gun owners into the conversation to reduce gun violence. The program addresses the reality that less than half of all gun owners in America store their firearms securely, and 4.6 million children in America live in homes with unlocked and loaded guns – contributing to firearm injuries as the leading cause of death of children and teens in the United States.
Gun owners and others who visit EndFamilyFire.org learn about the life-saving importance of secure gun storage and its crucial role in reducing family fire, or shootings that result from someone misusing an unsecured firearm from the home. Unintentional shootings, firearm suicide, and many intentional shootings are all forms of family fire. Gun owners and those living in gun owning households who are aware of the End Family Fire campaign are up to five times more likely to seek information about safe storage, and over half of those aware of the campaign reported storing their guns more safely in the past 12 months. Since 2018, End Family Fire content has been served to viewers more than 7.4 billion times, and in the past year alone, EndFamilyFire.org was visited over half a million times.
With this website relaunch, End Family Fire will continue to spread public awareness around the importance of secure firearm storage, focused on reaching gun-owning households in the geographic areas and communities most impacted by family fire. The updated website provides information on various ways to securely store all firearms and how to spread the word to families, loved ones, and communities, so everyone can play their part in preventing family fire.
Brady President Kris Brown said:
“Gun owners admirably want to put their family and safety first, and their choices to safely and securely store firearms protect families and communities all over the country. However, gun owners cannot store their firearms safely if they don’t have the knowledge and resources to do so. Whether it’s for a longtime gun owner who needs a reminder to reconsider storage amid life or household changes or a new gun owner who is not yet aware of storage risks and options, EndFamilyFire.org provides personalized guidance so everyone can feel informed on the best way to safely store their firearms. We all want to keep our homes and families safe. Together, we can prevent instances of family fire and emphasize responsibility and protection from harm.”
